Many ukiyo-e were made nearly 200 years ago, and the condition of each print is different. We describe the condition of each work on its product page so that you can choose with confidence. This page explains our grading criteria and the main terms we use.
■ 状態の評価基準 / Condition Grades
| 評価 / Grade | 状態の目安 / Description |
| 保存上良 / Fine | 色の退色が少なく、目立つ傷みのない良好な状態 / Good condition with little fading & no conspicuous damage |
| 保存良 / Good | 年代相応の経年変化（小さなシミ・軽い退色など）が見られる状態 / Age-appropriate wear such as small stains & slight fading |
| 保存並 / Fair | 虫損・破れ・補修など、目立つ傷みがある状態 / Noticeable damage such as wormholes, tears & repairs |
| 保存難 / Poor | 大きな破損があり、専門的な修復・レストアが必要な状態 / Significant damage, and professional repair and restoration are required. |

■ 状態に関する主な用語 / Condition Terms

| 退色 / Fading | 光などにより、とくに赤や紫などの色が薄くなること / Colors, especially reds & purples, becoming paler due to light exposure |
| ヤケ / Toning | 紙全体が茶色っぽく変色すること / Overall browning of the paper |
| シミ / Stains | 水濡れやカビなどによる斑点状の汚れ / Spot-like stains caused by water damage & mold |
| 虫損 / Wormholes | 虫に食われてできた穴 / Holes caused by insects |
| 裏打ち / Backing | 作品の裏に和紙を貼って補強すること / Reinforcing a print by pasting Japanese paper on the back |
| 綴じ穴 / Binding holes | 画帖などに綴じられていた際の穴 / Holes left from being bound in an album |
| 余白切れ / Trimmed margins | 周囲の余白が切り落とされていること / Margins trimmed around the image |
■ 状態の見方のポイント / Tips
- 経年による多少のシミやヤケは、古い版画としては自然なもので、作品の価値を大きく損なうものではありません。
- 一方で、摺りの鮮やかさや色の残り具合は、作品の魅力を大きく左右します。
- 額装してお楽しみになる場合、余白の小さな傷みはマットで隠れることもございます。
