■ 中村歌右衛門（三代目） / Nakamura Utaemon III

大坂出身で、立役・女方・敵役など幅広い役柄をこなした名優です。「兼ル（かねる）」役者と呼ばれ、大坂と江戸の両方で人気を博しました。上方絵の中で最も多く描かれた役者のひとりです。

A great actor from Osaka who mastered a wide range of roles, from heroes to female roles and villains. Called a “kaneru” (all-round) actor, he was popular in both Osaka and Edo, and is one of the most frequently depicted actors in Kamigata prints.

■ 嵐璃寛（二代目） / Arashi Rikan II

屋号は岡島屋。端正な容姿と品のある芸風で知られ、三代目中村歌右衛門と人気を二分したといわれます。二人の競演を描いた作品は、当時の芝居の熱気を今に伝えています。

His house name was Okajimaya. Known for his handsome looks and refined acting, he is said to have rivaled Nakamura Utaemon III in popularity. Prints of the two performing together convey the excitement of the theater of the time.

■ 市川團十郎家の名優 / Actors of the Ichikawa Danjūrō Line

江戸歌舞伎を代表する市川團十郎家の役者が大坂の舞台に立つことは、大きな話題となりました。「上坂」（大坂への出演）の道中や興行を描いた作品は、上方と江戸の交流を物語る資料でもあります。

When actors of the Ichikawa Danjūrō line, representing Edo kabuki, appeared on Osaka stages, it caused a great sensation. Prints depicting their journey to Osaka and their performances also document exchanges between Kamigata and Edo.

■ 女方の名優 / Great Onnagata

岩井紫若をはじめとする女方（おんながた）の役者も数多く描かれています。役者絵を通じて、女性を演じる役者の芸の美しさを味わうことができます。

Many onnagata, actors specializing in female roles, such as Iwai Shijaku, were also depicted. Through these prints you can appreciate the artistry of actors who played women.
